The first time I went to Coastal I was asked to arrive 15 mins early which I did, then waited over an hour and a half to get called in, ok I can handle that, but the second visit I was asked to pre-pay my insurance deductible, not a co-pay. every other doctor I visit submits a bill to my insurance and the insurance company mails me a "warning" that a bill is coming, and I'm responsible to pay, and it gets paid, but with this visit Coastal wanted to estimate my bill and have me pre-pay, as I have not yet hit my yearly deductible, I could under stand this practice if I neglected to pay a past bill, but to have me pay on the spot the amount they think I will have to pay tells me they are more there for my money then for my health, shame of the whole process is I did feel comfortable with Dr McAfee but the office policy make me feel like a crook... I walked out, I recommend an office who puts their patients health first!
Front desk is good, but not this Dr. There isn't a better word than A**hole for Dr. Engel. Asking him what is a rough percentage of people who don't opt for surgery (tubes) right away, there success rate. His answer, "I don't have a crystal ball". That's a question about his experience, not asking for a prediction. My wife and I had a 2 second discussion on what we should do and he walked out of the room and says, "I don't do marriage counseling". All together, the Dr. was in the room for less than 2 min! My daughter is less than 20 months old and had her 1st ear infection and he opted for surgery. I made an appointment with another Dr. a week later and by that time, all symptoms were clear and no need for surgery. I think this Dr. is in it for the $.
Pulled a tube out of my daughters ear in his office after telling her it wasn't going to hurt. Of course it was quite painful. She was hysterical and is terrified to go back. I was furious he lied, and could've cared less not even apologizing to her that it hurt and just walked out. No concern at all. Worst of all there was no reason to remove the tube as it was just making its way out and would've fallen out anyway. For a year afterwards she worried every time we had to even get her ear checked at her regular ped. She still brings it up occasionally. Tell kids the truth! It will hurt but will be over quickly. Then at least the outcome is a child who trusts their Dr.
The best! He is the best for my disabled son. And the office staff is always so pleasant.
My pediatrician referred me to Dr. Engel for my daughters recurrent ear infections. After reviewing all of my daughters history he recommended ear tubes. Being this is my first child I got very upset when I heard surgery but he made me feel really comfortable. If you child needs an ENT, this is the doctor.
